Behind the Machine - A Fig Leaf Gallery Group Exhibition

The Fig Leaf Gallery is proud to present our inaugural Spring group exhibition, “Behind the Machine,” which will open with a reception from 6-9pm on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Behind the Machine” will celebrate the unique styles of the artists of the Fig Leaf Tattoo Boutique, revealing a vast array of techniques, subject matter and material. Our artists are painters and illustrators, working in watercolor, acrylic, inks, mixed media and more. “Behind the Machine” will give audiences a glimpse into the imaginations that support the creative talents of our artists. “Behind the Machine” will include works by Beto Kauer, Esther Kim, Hailee Sattley, Ian Robertson-Salt, June June, Peter Hawks, Sheli Silverio, Tiffany Raber, Tyler Dillon.

About The Artists
Beto Kauer is a musician, designer, and resident tattoo artist at The Fig Leaf. His illustrations in black ink are bold, yet understated, expressions of the world around us.

Esther Kim is a tattoo artist, fine artist, and former art therapist. Her original art is sweet, subtle, and moving. These qualities come across in her tattoos and illustrations.

Hailee Sattley is an experienced tattoo artist with a background in fine arts and especially oil painting. In her tattooing, Hailee specializes in illustrative, blackwork, and neotraditional styles. She especially enjoys tattooing plants, animals, and anything witchy/whimsical. Her oil paintings have a dreamy ethereal quality even when depicting the everyday.

Ian Robertson-Salt works professionally in a wide variety of media and scales. He designs and paints large-scale public murals in LA and worldwide; paints acrylic works on canvas in his studio; and he is a resident tattoo artist at The Fig Leaf. His original artwork often focuses on issues affecting our society, and his designs blend high-detail realism with colorful graphic elements.

June Jung is a painter and tattoo artist. She is the founding artist of The Fig Leaf. June’s original watercolor paintings use color to evoke emotion and beauty.

Peter Hawks is a tattoo artist with a love of Tattoo culture and history. Peter uses paint and paper to create flash sheets and large-scale tattoo designs. These paintings are all available to be tattooed by Peter.

Sheli Silverio is an an apprentice studying tattooing under June Jung. She is also a painter who has exhibited in group and solo shows since 2001. Sheli uses the unpredictability of her media (often watercolor) to draw out the vulnerable beauty in her subjects,

Tiffany Raber is an apprentice learning tattooing under June Jung. Her original art explores the intersection of creativity and scientific concepts.

Tyler Dillon specializes in blackwork tattoos and loves designing creatures inspired by folk art from around the wold. Tyler’s pen illustrations pre-date his tattoo career, and he draws on paper even more now. He finds the pen drawing practice informs and supports his tattoo practice.
